Hi,

is there a roadmap/plan for the future of this project?

AFAICS the layout.module currently holds multiple iterations of the responsive layout designer as well as some layout/block-placement related parts that we were removed from core in 8.x-2.x. It would be good to know what the plans for the road ahead are.

A little background: @dsnopek has taken the lead and initiative on the panels in D8 discussion (https://www.drupal.org/node/2169319), coordinating weekly meetings in #drupal-scotch. I have done some work porting parts of the GUI/backbone stuff from #1840500 as a proof-of-concept on top of the timplunketts page_manager module (https://github.com/frega/layout). As having a minimalistic layout-registry is something needed across modules (in particular DS and panels, maybe even core) that particular aspect has found its way to a sandbox shared by dsnopek and me here https://www.drupal.org/sandbox/frega/2297763 (this layout-registry & .layouts.yml-approach received some input from tkoleary and lewisnyman during the layout sprint in Zürich a while back).

It would be great to have a "project space" to bring existing implementations and future plans for contrib in this space together; please reach out to either me or dsnopek on IRC or via issue queues, if you think that makes sense.

I am also interested in the Layout module and wondering what the future plans are.
Is Layout going to be included in the 8.1 or 8.2 core?Does anybody know?

I think we can mark this issue fixed since the sandbox mentioned in the issue description has been promoted to a full project (Layout plugin) which is actively being used by several projects

Any update here? Should we close this issue and point people to the layout module in Drupal core?

That's an option for Drupal 8. But please don't forget about the Drupal 7 version of this module.
