Trying to install D8 (dev. aug. 4) I get following error under "Requirements problem":

PHP extensions	 Disabled
Drupal requires you to enable the PHP extensions in the following list (see the <a href="">system requirements page</a> for more information):<div class="item-list"><ul><li>fileinfo</li></ul></div>

I set up a 'php.ini' with following:

session.cache_limiter = nocache
session.auto_start = 0
expose_php = off
allow_url_fopen = off
magic_quotes_gpc = off
register_globals = off

magic_quotes_gpc = off
magic_quotes_runtime = off
safe_mode = off

What am I overlooking?
Where can I find an actual error info?

I have met the same problem. You need to install php fileinfo extension lib. By the way, which OS do you use?

Denko’s picture

Thank you for pointing that out.

I do have fileinfo as part of xampp stack on my Linux Mint 17 computer.

It is on a shared host, that D8 is not working - and indeed; they do not have the fileinfo extension.

I am asking them if it is possible to get that up - and I am sure they will before D8 is released.

changan’s picture

The time sounds sufficient before you can actually use D8 on that shared host. :-)

If you are having problems setting up your local environment for D8 you can go to Drupal Community Tools Download Instructions page. Here you will find instruction on how to set-up a local environment on any OS.

- which did not (yet) install fileinfo.

Install works perfectly fine om my own computer (Linux w. xampp)

I am having XAMPP and facing the same issue with the latest build of Drupal-8. Any ideas, how to solve this?

emraam’s picture

Have had same problem and uncommented extension=php_fileinfo.dll on php.ini. Works fine :)

Denko’s picture

on my computer fileinfo is loaded anyway (without un-commenting that line). Maybe different Linux or XAMPP. (running D8 dev from Aug. 5)

& still awaiting the shared host to install/activate fileinfo.

I have the same problem and uncommented extension=php_fileinfo.dll on C:\xampp\php\php.ini
Works perfectly...thanks a lot..

I have the same problem and uncommenting the line no. 971
extension=php_fileinfo.dll on C:\xampp\php\php.ini
Works fine. Thanks

Xagarsan’s picture

Thanks for your comment, that worked also for me!

Xagarsan’s picture

Thanks for your comment, that worked also in my case!

Thanks @emraam. I had the same issue. But I uncommented that extension=php_fileinfo.dll on php.ini. Now it work fine.

h3rb3rt’s picture

ran into the same issue today.
all extensions are installed and I do not really have a lot of options now.

Drupal requires you to enable the PHP extensions in the following list (see the <a href="">system requirements page</a> for more information):<div class="item-list"><ul><li>fileinfo</li></ul></div>

I try to install latest drupal 8 alpha14

how can this be fixed?

Same problem on a Acqia Dev Desktop 2 Beta environment

Drupal requires you to enable the PHP extensions in the following list (see the system requirements page for more information):

  • fileinfo
h3rb3rt’s picture

hi thanks,

my problem is, that I do not understand it.
I forgot to mention that I assume that fileinfo ist already installed.
I created the phpinfo site on the subdomain I am working with and I find filinfo within the enabled extenstions
or do I get it wrong?

this ist the phpinfo site for test system.

Denko’s picture

Your phpinfo shows clearly, that fileinfo is not installed on that server.

Ask DreamHost what their plans are regarding support of D8.

h3rb3rt’s picture

thanks for the info, that means that the reference at the beginning

is not loading the fileinfo extenstion properly, as I suppose?
How should it look like to know that fileinfo is loaded correctly?

Denko’s picture

As you can see here (about one third down):

there should be something like this:

fileinfo support 	enabled
version 	1.0.5
h3rb3rt’s picture

based on your hint the hoster could fix it :)
I had to insist but anyhow it is working now :)

ASvistun’s picture

I resolved this problem by simply removing comment tags from the Line 995: in front of "extension=php_fileinfo.dll" in php.ini file

Drupalme’s picture

to remove php extension issue :
open php.ini and locate
extension=php_fileinfo.dll and uncomment it (remove the ;)
close wamp or xampp or whatever your are using and reopen it again

local9ssb’s picture

The installer should check needs php to tell which ones are missing.
The proposed drupal 8 should simplify tasks and always show the bugs.
Yet should no longer be a patchwork rather an integrated with the least amount of possible system failures.
Thus the evolution is constant and efficient.
Success to all.

When installing drupal8 site using AcquiaDevDesktop-2-Beta-2014-09-26.exe from Community Tools Windows I had a problem with the missing fileinfo extension when selecting PHP 5.5 but no problem when using PHP 5.4.24.

eigentor’s picture

This is clearly a usability bug, since the user is not told in the screen what to enable.
Has a core issue been created? I did not find one, but do not want to create a duplicate.

mikemadison’s picture

Same issue here running Xampp on a Windows machine. Took a bit of digging through the requirements, and then digging through phpinfo() to figure out that the fileinfo dll was included with xampp but not enabled by default.

Denko’s picture

On my machine running Linux Mint (newest ver.) XAMPP apparently enabled fileinfo by itself (default), so I discovered the problem trying to install D8 on a (shared host) internet server. Fortunately the hosting corp saw the advantage in enabling fileinfo and enabled it.

veeraprasadd’s picture

I had the same issue in xampp. It is resolved when I enabled extension=php_fileinfo.dll from Apache php.ini file.

Another solution for "PHP extensions Disabled" GD at
That's for Drupal 7. It might work for Drupal 8.
