Problem/Motivation
This all sounds awesome!
As a previous user of COD - which i'm pretty sure you heard of - i wonder what exactly the reasons are for a new project.
COD is a beast and the project possibly didn't progress super fast because of lack of contributors. No that's exactly the point, where it would be so important to join forces wherever possible. One outstanding solution is better than tho half-complete ones.
Have you been in contact with the maintainers?
Can you please describe the key differences?
Proposed resolution
Please consider colaboration so we all can get the most out of it.

japerryWe'd love to see you guys come on over. We have cookies! (And resources!)
In all seriousness, I'd check out the new COD beta. It has all of the features of cream with much more flexibility.

joachim CreditAttribution: joachim commentedSorry for not replying sooner -- I was hoping aburrows would do so first, as he's the one with the vision for the Cream distribution.
I can say for my part that the piece of Cream that I've written, the timetable module, is released as a separate project and can be used standalone: https://www.drupal.org/project/timetable. So a first step might be for COD to try to see whether it can use that? The schedule building was the part of COD I found the most painful when I last tried it.

miro_dietikerAlso, Drupal 8 is almost here. It would be a pity to waste time with porting two similar distributions... (say, at least distributions with a similar goal.)
