The option to select "Remote File" on a particular content type has mysteriously vanished. It was there and I could select it; now it is not there. Nothing about the content type was changed.

The 2 attached images show (a) with the Remote File option present (b) with the Remote File option missing.

Can anyone shed some light on this? How can I get it back?

ah, how embarrassing.. the "vanished" functionality is actually from another module: https://drupal.org/project/remote_file_source.
