I am trying to set up a list of people in our community with names and addresses etc. Also I want to categorize them in various ways and provide descriptive information for , say , business type establishments. The contacts module does everything I want, but is not connected to the profile system

I would prefer to use the profile system 1) because it is core, 2) it is more easily modifiable than the contact list for a non programmer, 3)it seems like a duplication of effort for users to enter their info twice.

The cons against profile is there is no easy way to handle non-registered parties as far as I know, ( e.g. allow any registered member to add his own contacts for sharing or other wise). Also I think (I am not sure) that the contacts module has better search capabilities.

Does anybody have any suggestions for ways out of my dilemma?
