Hi Rik,

I have created a map using IPVG&M to show locations of specific events, individuals and objects in World War I. The map works great (you can see it here), and it was great having your module to set it all up.

I was trying to see if I could add an image overlay to the map. I had found a good tutorial about using the Google API to create an image overlay at tuts+. Using this tutorial I had managed to create an image overlay of roughly what I wanted which you can see here. however, I cannot see a way of integrating the image overlay with the map I created using IPVG&M, which has all the markers on.

TBH, I'm not that hopeful that I will be able to achieve this using IPVG&M, but I thought it would be worth asking your advice, to see whether it would be possible. there is some Google API documentation about image overlays. But I had been using a leaflet map with marker clusters, which was working really well, but when I switched to the Google API the map is not as good (no marker clusters or pop-up titles).

Any advice you have would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ben

Edit:

I forgot to state, my main aim is to combine the image overlay with the markers on the map.

Hi Ben,
Nice site and map! And quite a few people, places and objects you have collected already! Great effort.

I had a look at the links you provided and can see how overlays would add something to your maps.

However, your suspicions are correct. I don't see how we can easily integrate Google overlays by tweaking the existing module code. We would probably have to add Google API code for this, but then you lose your current Leaflet clustering, so we'd have to add Google clustering as well.

That's beyond the scope of the current module and I don't have the spare time to keep on doing hours and hours of module improvements every week. As a paid extension I'd be willing to look into it.

Best,
Rik

PS1: the pop-up balloons should work when using IPGV&M with the Google API too. And just like Leaflet, you can have pictures in the balloons.
PS2: What do you mean by "See below" in #1 ?

Hi Rik,

Thanks very much for your response. Glad you like the site. I had thought it was fairly unlikely that it would be a straightforward bit of tweaking. I didn't mean to infer that it was a feature that should be added to the module. Your module really is excellent; it has added great functionality and helped me to achieve the objectives for the site.

I will ask (my client) if there is any budget for doing such an extension. However, the whole site was done on a fairly small budget anyway so it is probably unlikely.

My pop-up balloon titles are working now!

Please ignore my comment in #1, that's me still not getting to grips with adding comments and previewing submissions in Drupal even after 4 years of using it :)

Thanks again,

Ben
