The Edit module (edit.module) has been renamed to Quick Edit (quickedit.module), for two reasons: there are many, many other ways to "edit" the content of a Drupal site, and the word "edit" is ubiquitous and unspecific.

The module is available as a contributed project in Drupal 7 (https://drupal.org/project/edit) and is provided in Drupal 8 core.
