This release contains a number of updates which have been available in the -dev
release for some time, as well as a few UX improvements.

#1455750 by xtfer: Empty regions should not render

- Various minor UX improvements
- Improved the efficiency of some internal static caching
- Added support for the variable module
- Added an new formatter for multigroups to use the first field value as a label
- Fixed an issue where some multigroup subgroups with no content would render
empty content
- Fixed an issue where some variables statically cached were not returned
- Fixed the utility API function ds_make()
- Improved handling of field values in multigroups
- Improved build mode information available on the build mode page
- Fixed registration of module-specific plugins
- Numerous codeing standards improvements (but not enough)
