I currently have my variation titles set to auto-populate. When I create my product through the UI the title is being generated, however when I import from a csv file the title is left blank. I don't have the variant title field mapped on the importer hoping that it would auto generate, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have the same issue. Variations import fine, but require a manual update and save of the product variation. Not sure why that's occurring.

I was able to at least provide a title through import though. (https://www.drupal.org/node/1987134#comment-9919854).

Using the "concatenate" spreadsheet function it was also fairly simple to create the additional column using: product-title (attribute title) this giving me "Drupal Shirt (XL)", so it wasn't too much extra work.
