Hi I just set up Drupal on my shared hosting with 1and1.co.uk and tried to integrate Gallery2 with it. I have the php error regarding the amount of memory needed and that avaiable, I have followed most of the discussions about how to modify the php.ini file to up the memory limit but still have the error message. I rang 1and1 to see if there was anything I was doing wrong or if there was a physical limit my shared hosting imposed. After a prompt but short phone cal I was told that Drupal is not supported under the shared hosting I would need to upgrade to a managed server to be able to install Drupall.
Drupall was working ok it was just the Galler2 integration that was the issue? anyone else come accross this? is there a work around?

help the new kid on the block please!!

I'm not sure why 1and1 is telling you that. Over the past week, I have installed Drupal and Gallery2 on shared hosting at siteground.com.

I did not have to mess with php.ini (except on my local XAMPP test system). I did not use Fantasico or any hosting script system to install. Instead, I uploaded the latest (seems to change daily) version of Drupal 5.7 and Gallery2 2.2.4 (full version) and installed them directly.

Gallery2 requires image manipulation kits like NetPBM or Gd or ImageMagick - perhaps 1and1 has an issue with installing those since they are often installed as binaries.

For what it's worth, I recently transferred a domain from 1and1 and it was like pulling teeth with those guys.
