How is drupal.org displaying user profile information?

Given the issues in various queues about trying to get profile2 to work with panels and/or display suite, how is drupal.org storing and displaying additional user information?

Is drupal.org currently using profile2 and, if so, how do the fields make it into the user display? Is it a customized template or are there specific modules (and patches?) involved?
