I'm thinking of trying a drupal distribution for the first time, but I wanted to get a handle on how they work, update and differ from regular drupal first.
I'm interested in the Flight distribution:
https://drupal.org/project/flight
but the questions basically apply to all.
Mainly, once the distribution is installed, do I update the components in the regualr way?
Eg, if the core version of drupal gets a new release, or a module in the distribution gets updated, do I just update that as usual? Or do I need to wait for those updates to get rolled into some form of distribution update?
Flight lists it's components here:
http://flight.albatrossdigital.com/full-list-included-contrib-projects
but some regular modules are listed as part of 'flight - contrib - whatever'
That doesn't mean they've been rolled into some form of flight 'bundle' or something, does it?
Finally, there is a scary looking warning that:
"There are security updates available for code included in these releases. Review release notes before downloading."
Does that just mean I have to update all the modules after I install? Or is there more to it than that?
Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I want to be sure before committing too much time to something that might not work out.
Many thanks in advance!

It may not answer all your questions, but see http://chocolatelilyweb.ca/tips-on-building-off-a-drupal-distribution for an excellent article on using distros.
Thanks.
Thanks.
That's a very useful page. Though it has kind of put me off using distributions. Updating, changes and security patches etc.. seem to be a huge headache (unless it's a major distribution that gets updated VERY regularly).
Oh well. I'm giving it a try with Flight, and updating everything. We'll see if that works or breaks everything. If it breaks things I might just have to go with core drupal and a big list of modules.
Thanks again!
