Hi,
it would be nice if Search api integrated with Simple Hierarachical select https://drupal.org/project/shs
So as ,when using search api views there is the ability to have an exposed filter with hierarchical taxonomy.Here is an issue on Simple hierarchical select https://drupal.org/node/1925302

I'm not sure if this will be possible to move into Search API core itself, so I'd recommend you to have this in a contributed module. If Drupal 8 will have hierarchical select, we might need to revisit this I guess? For that reason, I'm setting this to postponed unless there are strong arguments against it.
