STR:

  1. Customize your view mode for a teaser differently from the default view mode,
  2. Create a custom view of teasers (under Format: Show: Content | Teaser),
  3. Enable the View Mode per Role module
  4. ...View is now ignoring your teaser mode.
  5. Changing settings in the content type don't make any difference to the view display.

If I'm missing some configuration or overlooking something, let me know. If this works as designed, it's not readily apparent that this can be fixed... (cleared caches several times).
