Is there a simple way to add an option to text fields (which are of type URL) to be output as a hyperlink? There is no straightforward format option under 'Manage display' available. The only option I see is a theme/template override in a custom theme.

Such a feature might also be useful for telephone number fields too (using <a href="tel:01234567890">01234 567 890</a>).

Any thoughts?
