I just realized that we don't set an <autoSoftCommit> in our 4.x solrconfig.xml.
It also seems this was never discussed, and I'm just wondering why? Is there a reason?
I mean, it's a really great feature and while there are certainly cases in which it shouldn't be used, I do think it should be enabled by default. In any case, we should add the section, along with documentation, to our file and make it configurable through solrcore.properties.

Any opinions?

Not sure if there is a reason but I wonder if this is supported from Solr 4.0? We took the example schema from Solr 4.1 if I recall and modified it.

I can't test right now, but since it's in the 4.0.0-ALPHA release notes (#22), I'm pretty sure it is supported.

So what do you think should be our default there?
