A new stable release of the CKEditor library has been released which includes Internet Explorer 11 support and a host of improvements and bug fixes. It's also the first stable version of CKEditor to support the Widget API.

The plugins that were previously bundled with CKEditor are no longer included in the basic/standard/full tarballs and have moved to separate projects on ckeditor.com. Unfortunately, the plugins now have a new download URL which has yet to be whitelisted on drupal.org (#1996750: Add CKEditor official plugins to the whitelist).

As Commons previously included these plugins (their exclusion could break existing site configurations) and the Widget API plugin will be required for the upcoming Media integration (#1867524: [meta] Better media handling capabilities) this should be postponed until the whitelist issue is fixed.
