Yes there is. I've been waiting for the first beta to come out as the field system, field.ui, and entity system still have several criticals that can break the API that need to be resolved first. Critical bugs and tasks related to field system.

If you like refactoring please feel free to post a patch and if it looks good I'll set you up with commit access.

Here is initial patch for the module. There are some troubles with saving value from select, and I will probably fix it on this week. And can you give me access to the repo (as co-maintainer)?

I granted you maintainer and created a 8.x-3.x branch but D.O won't let me release it yet so we can't select it for the issue queue. I'm going to wait for a couple cron runs and see if it will let me release it. I went ahead and committed your patch the 8.x release. Feel free to commit often as it's brand new.
