If users have listed their Gittip account in the proper place in the user profile page, make sure to highlight their contributions on project pages of which they are listed as a maintainer. For instance on the Admin Menu, there are a few highlighted maintainers, but at the moment only Dave Reid is the only one with a Gittip account listed.
So highlight his Gittip account on the page so that when people get there from the 358,101 known installs of this module that they can easily thank whoever has been taking on the role of maintaining this code.
Ideally this probably would be just a nice little Gittip logo that maybe expands to say - Give to Dave Reid for his contributions to this module.

mgiffordFollowing on #2138397-13: Highlight Flattr, Paypal or Whatever Opportunities on Issue Pages I've implemented this so that by default it is at %40 opacity. This would make it less obvious.
I spent some time going through modules that are critical for my business this past week. I was sad to see the number of modules which were still with only dev releases. Or for that matter with rc's or alpha releases that hadn't been touched for a year or more. This just shouldn't be the case in this stage of the D7 release cycle. This is the time when there should be the most stable releases.
This may or may not be useful to encourage maintainers to go through the annoying work of cleaning up the issue queue, but it is hard to see how it would hurt.
Also, as a disclaimer, I am not doing this in efforts to get Gittip $$ for myself. I do think it is useful though to give one more reason for folks to contribute to Drupal.

webchickI don't think there's any point in forking this discussion into 3+ places. Marking this postponed on the outcome of #2138397: Highlight Flattr, Paypal or Whatever Opportunities on Issue Pages.
