In the "Subscribe" fieldset there is a row called "Subscribe to this post" (and in my current setup that is the only row). Now assume the user ticks that checkbox and lets also assume I have set the defaults for "On Updates" and "On Comments" to unchecked. The user is probably under the assumption that he has now subscribed to the post. But has he? What is the meaning of checking that checkbox if both "On Updates" and "On Comments" are unchecked? Is there some way to redesign the interface to make this less confusing?

I'm open to suggestions... :-)

You are quite right, that in the situation you describe, the user has subscribed to the post, but he will not get any notifications, because both remaining kinds of notifications ('update' and 'comment') are turned off. 'New' doesn't apply, because the node already exists.

What can we do? Remove "Subscribe to this post" if both Update and Comment default to off and aren't visible? Or disable the checkbox? If Update and Comment are visible, we still risk that the user activates the subscription but turns off both kinds. What do we do in that case?
