I assume you mean midnight commander? Presonally, I feel a desktop file manager should have a bit more integration with the desktop (cut/paste+drag/drop, etc). But I'll check it out ... because newer versions of nautilus are losing features.
However, current nautilus supports many features that you may or may not be aware of:
* F3 key wll create a split pane screen (like midnight commander)
* Tabbed windows
* ftp capabilities built-in
* ssh (sftp) built-in
* webdav (http/https) built-in
* plus other easy tweaks using gnome settings directly
Also on my radar as a replacement is nemo ... I'm of course open to other ideas, so I appreciate the feedback
