Any chance of back porting this to D6?

Also does the module happen to add up all the shares and display them (similar to mashable)?

Right now there are no plans to support D6. If someone is interested in doing so and maintaining it, I would encourage them to provide a patch and if it looks good I could add them as a maintainer.
