Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
I have upload at least 20 sandbox sites using drupal commons 3.2 and 3.3 in the last 2 months. Maybe 4 times out of 20 will the private message module work.
It either eliminates the "to" field altogether (I disabled the real names module to no effect) or when uninstalled and reinstalled the "to" field returns but the "You must include one valid recipient" error shows and the message won't send. Can anyone help?

This issue may also be of help:
#2077223: Privatemsg should enable privatemsg_realname when realname is enabled
