Wundo asked that I promote his post about his new company. I don't know if he have a policy on commerical posts on the front page. Obviously Acquia isn't going to be questioned but there are other companies that have had posts on there. And he is a known contributer, not some random person. So I decided to go ahead and promote it and file an issue at the same time. If anyone has concerns, please reply. Otherwise I'll assume it's ok and leave it there.

I am not sure that sets a good precedence.

Yes, Wundo is a contributor (was his mentor in Google Summer of Code), but then we will have a race of "me too", and "why him".

I don't recall that other companies were there, whether newly formed or established for a while.

Yes, Acquia is an exception, because of Dries, but everyone else is different. Being in Drupal News is more appropriate.

As I said in IRC to Michelle, I know that our small startup is nothing when compared to the huge investiment from Acquia and Lullabots all those drupal rockstars. But we are very serious and commited with community, and we are the first effort of a company taking drupal seriously here in Brazil, and as seems to me there is not many drupal-only companies in development countries. So maybe we deserve some highlight.

Where does it stop though?

Clear lines need to be drawn.

Drupal isn't very big in Philadelphia Pennsylvania either and I'm sure in many other places on the planet. If that is the standard being set, then it should apply across the board.

I have to -1 this (and +1 kbahey) view.

Examples are Lullabot (http://drupal.org/node/193868) but this was "giving away free stuff" as in knowledge.

Whereas Raincity/Bryght annoucement (http://drupal.org/node/194127) didn't make the Frontpage.

Ok, there's 3 against and I was on the fence myself. I've demoted it again. Wundo is heading to bed and I suggested he look at past front page posts and post any here that back him up. If he can convince people it should be there, it can always be repromoted.

Thanks everyone.

It is not about size.

It is about whether any company (except Acquia's since it is Dries') should be listed here. When Drupal was much smaller, it did happen (e.g. http://drupal.org/node/10456, note 10,000 nodes), but not any time recently. I don't remember Lullabot getting listed (http://drupal.org/node/43066). 2bits did not get listed. When Rain City acquired Bryght, it was not on the front page http://drupal.org/node/194127.

I don't think any company announcement should be on the front page, not only yours.

Oh, and congratulations for starting your company. Wish you all the success. Nice for a mentor to see many successes!

Yeah, that was my thinking as well. Honestly, the only reason I gave it a chance was due to it being the first one in Brazil and the push to internationalize Drupal that's been going on. Plus, I had a screaming baby on my lap and didn't double check what he said about there being other companies with posts on the front page. :)

The more I think about the more I think it's not a good idea. I'm marking this as fixed unless wundo can get one of the high ups to post on here. Sorry, wundo, I gave it a shot but like I said in IRC, we do need to be careful with the front page.

As someone involved with a Drupal consultancy, I agree with the decision here. I would never expect my company to get front-page play on d.o. This is a place for the community.

I agree with basically everyone else, but wanted to add that we do have a place to add businesses where the people involved have clearly contributed: http://drupal.org/drupal-services

wundo - I suggest you follow the process on that page and get the company listed there.
