I have installed drupal 4.1.0 on Apache 1.3.27 (OpenBSD 3.3).

I am having problems activating themes. I select the theme I want activated and click save settings etc. I go back to the home page and the site doesn't display any themes, even the original these has disapeared. Just a plane page with the username and password loggin box and the rest of the links.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Is it possible that your account (your first account) has the basic example theme selected? If so, maybe what you select as a theme in the Admin section won't appear.

Have you tried forcing a theme to all users in the Admin section? If the forced theme doesn't work, then it most probably means that theme isn't working.

"Forcing a them to all users"? Could you operationalize that? As in click x, then y, until you arrive at menu z? Thanks. I know I have seen that option somewhere, but I'm new at this and can't remember where.

so make sure to select a proper (enabled) theme in "edit account". the symptom you describe uses to happen when you change the side-wide theme settings (admin/system/themes) so that the user theme currently selected isn't available anymore.
