I'm experiencing the same issue as the OP of #1596304: Notice: Uninitialized string offset: 0 in field_group_unpack() . Since installing this module, going into any Features admin screen (if the feature has a field group) gives me lots of these notices:

Notice: Uninitialized string offset: 0 in field_group_unpack() (line 1507 of /.../sites/all/modules/contrib/field_group/field_group.module).

I can confirm this is an issue. It also seems to crop up in Rules or anywhere that field_groups are used.
