In #1950632: Create a FieldDefinitionInterface and use it for formatters and widgets, we introduced FieldDefinitionInterface so that formatters, widgets, and other things that act on fields can act via a more limited interface than all of $field and $instance, and thereby be decoupled from whether the field is configurable or not. In #2032393: Limit APIs to FieldDefinitionInterface when FieldInstance isn't needed, we fixed some places other than formatters and widgets to use this interface. However, that patch missed content_translation_field_sync_widget(). This issue takes care of it.
