ran update.php thru the interface afterwards and got no errors (it ran the update successfully). I suppose it's possible this was a file system cache issue of some kind?

I have a feeling this was due to not updating the file entity module to the latest dev along with media module. closing. Feel free to reopen if you have the matching dev version of file entity and encounter this.

How can a fatal error be "works as designed"? If this depends on a newer version of file_entity, then that should be specified in the .info:

dependencies[] = file_entity (>=2.0-alpha1)

As of 2013-Aug-17 this works well with the latest stable release of file_entity-7.x-2.0-alpha2.

Please see #3. People can still get fatal errors until that's a declared dependency.

Also, please always use "fixed" instead of "closed (fixed)" - see https://drupal.org/node/156119

#4 works fine for me. Error gone away.
Once i upgrade version from file_entity 7.x-2.0-unstable7 to file_entity 7.x-2.0-alpha2.
