Active Living Research, a program of the Robert Wood Johnson foundation, needed a refreshed website to promulgate their stellar research into childhood obesity. The build included an upgrade from Drupal 4.x to 6 and the migration of their considerable research database. The site received the 2012 IMA Outstanding Achievement Award in the nonprofit category.

Active Living Research was a 2013 Blue Drop Awards finalist for Best Advocacy Website Built With Drupal.

Why Drupal was chosen: 

The original site was built in Drupal 4. This revamp took it up to version 6.

Describe the project (goals, requirements and outcome): 

The project required an upgrade from Drupal 4 with the migration of a considerably sized database system. The process of upgrading also included a redesign to improve usability and flow.

Technical specifications

Why these modules/theme/distribution were chosen: 

ApacheSolr + ApacheSolrPanels and ApacheSolrSort: The Apache modules allowed for a complex faceted search of research documents with a completely custom look.

Panels: Panels were essential to the organization of data into a limited amount of space.

Memcache: Memcache was a required module to scale for performance under heavy loads.

Zen Theme: Zen is a simple and stripped-down starter theme great for full customization.
