The code has been fixed so that the module now works with the Twitter 1.1 API -- #1781024: Make the Twitter Pull module work when Twitter turns off the version 1 API.
However, this code is no good to users unless a new release is made. Please could the maintainers make a new release on the 7.x-1.x, and also on the 6.x-1.x branch once the backport patch at #1781024: Make the Twitter Pull module work when Twitter turns off the version 1 API is committed.

joachim CreditAttribution: joachim commentedI see that the D7 fix for that issue has been committed as the first commit of a 7.x-2.x branch. So I'll follow suit and create a 6.x-2.x branch for the D6 patch.

joachim CreditAttribution: joachim commentedDone! I've made 2.0-alpha1 releases on each of the branches.
The project page could do with updating now, as it still says that the twitter API 'might' be turned off in future, and talks about Twitter module without saying it's now a dependency.
