My friend and I have an idea for a web business and we need some framework for the website. We both have some design experience but very little back-end experience.

Without saying too much our website would need a way for users to register and upon registration be able to create their own homepage/single-page website that would give out some basic info, but it needs to be customizable in how it looks and what information they put on there.

Any ideas if I can do this with drupal and maybe where to start?

Yes that actually looks similar to what I want to do, but I actually want mine even simpler than that. Where do I start?

First, you'll need to learn drupal-- install it and play with it. You might be able to do what you want with og and og_theme.
