I'm looking for a gallery script or module to work with drupal 5.5 but there's so many of them out there. I don't want to waste time with trial and error. Which gallery would you recommend?

Gallery using Views
Have a look at this video...
Gives a step by step guide on how to set up a gallery using Views and other common modules.
This method is very flexible and gives you lots of control over how it will look and function.

My advice: use the image
My advice: use the image gallery that is offered as a drupal module. It is superb, easy to use and set up, and comes with some very nice features. I have tried them all -- Acidfree, Gallery2, and have also created my own customized image galleries using CCK and Views for special projects (this is the best way to go if you have the time to put in to mastgering the learning curve). In the end, the image module serves the purpose of creating a gallery very nicely, in my opinion. (To see it in action visit my site.)
