hey everybody

I'm quite new to Drupal but I've dabbled around with v5 and v6 quite a lot already, installed different modules, tested them, etc.

One thing I just don't really see through is the topic of translations. I understand how to import .po files allthough there are no such files available yet for v6 but this seems to be linked only with the interface.

what about my menu items and my content? how can I translate these things in an easy way? If I have english plus two other languages activated for my site, do I have to create three menues (I don't think so)? can I export my content into a pot file too?

let's say I'm creating this page in three languages and I'm just creating the english version, someone else does the translations. how can I get a list of all non-translated content and give it to that person?

I'm a bit confused about the border between interface and content and I don't get why can't content be exportet and translated in the same way as the interface...

Thank you already in advance for any answers!

Markus

In Drupal 5.x, you need a contributed module to translate content and menus. You can choose between: http://drupal.org/project/i18n (handbook) and http://drupal.org/project/localizer (handbook). I haven't tried either of them, and don't know what the difference is, but I imagine I've seen some forum threads discussing this.

In Drupal 6.x, there's content translation in core. I've only tried it once, though, several weeks ago, and I can't remember what I did to enable it now. So I'm afraid you'll have to explore yourself, or wait for the documentation for version 6. Or we can hope that someone else helps us out :-)

To get menu translation in Drupal 6, I think you'll need a contributed module, and those haven't been updated for 6.x yet. See here for update of modules.

thanks zirvap for your answer. I think I'm just a bit early with my question. I have a project which has to be finished somewhen between january and march 08 and I don't know if I should still keep to 5.5 or trust that 6 will be ready including the necessary modules.
