We believe that the website pushes the boundaries of what can be delivered with a Drupal website. It is demonstrates what is possible from both a design and technical point of view. Our creative team produced a design that is both attractive and user friendly, whilst keeping in-line with the Rimmel brand. It is fully responsive for a seamless experience over desktop, tablet and mobile. The site utilizes Domain Access and Entity Translation to provide a global platform for the promotion of news, products, competitions and campaigns across 18 multiple markets and allows localisation of content whilst still ensuring a consistent brand experience.

Rimmel London
Why Drupal was chosen:

Given Drupal’s reputation for being able to provide enterprise level websites of this nature we decided that developing the websites on a Drupal installation was the best solution.

Describe the project (goals, requirements and outcome):

We were tasked with designing and building a digital platform which would position Rimmel ahead of the curve across their industry, creating an engaging and consistent brand experience along the way.

We placed movement at the very heart of our creative treatment. The organic, moving layout is supported by subtle animations with a real sense of depth. This includes the ‘parallax’ scrolling on the homepage that helps create a memorable experience, unique to Rimmel.

To enable the user to refine the vast product range that Rimmel offer we implemented the jQuery Isotope plugin. This makes browsing and filtering a far more impressive experience, and really gives the WOW factor, showing off the products to full effect.

Pairing cutting edge technology with stunning creative, we’ve created a global platform for Rimmel that cements them as best-in-class.

The UK site went live in December 2012. It has subsequently been rolled out in the US, Australia, Ireland, Finland, France, Italy, Poland, Russia and South Africa. The website will go live in the remaining markets over the next few months.

Key modules/theme/distribution used:
Why these modules/theme/distribution were chosen:

We used the Domain Access module to create separate ‘sites’ for each of the markets. This means that everything can run off a single Drupal installation whilst allowing domain specific configurations to be set.

Although the content across the different markets is similar we needed the ability to provide multilingual support. The Entity translation module was chosen to handle this because it enables content to be served in different languages without creating unnecessary duplications. For example, a campaign page may use the same images across all sites but might require some minor text variations.

We also made extensive use of the Views module that provided a flexible way for us to display dynamic content on the site. In particular, this was used for Rimmel’s product catalogue, which can be filtered by the user in various different ways.

We used the Omega base theme to produce a stunning responsive design. We found that by utilising the provided stylesheets and display regions we were able to produce a theme that displays beautifully on all devices.
