Custom styles not compatible with Internet Explorer 9

I have created custom styles for my CKeditor.
The styles show up (with the correct style applied) in the styles dropdown.
The problem is that they do not actually work only in internet explorer.
In any other browser the styles do get applied to the text as expected.
