Kimberly-Clark Professional Front
Why Drupal was chosen:

The client required an open source solution that could manage multiple versions (a
website for each country) of the same institutional base website (with the same graphic
design). In other words, the client required a base website offering the possibility of
creating new sub-websites with specific content.

Drupal possesses exceptional content management capabilities through the use of custom add-on modules. These modules were vital to successfully organizing the site’s
infrastructure as well as supporting flexibility between several different languages.

We found the Sony Music study case to be an inspiring example of how to reach the
best solution for our client.

Describe the project (goals, requirements and outcome):

It is necessary for our client to provide local websites in every country, and control the content with in them, in a way that each country is able to promote their local products, services and news to their local clients.

The top level requirement of this project was to build a simple but powerful site for each Latin American country in which Kymberly-Clark operates. As a key requirement, the solution had to be able to manage multiple versions of the content by country.

Finally, to optimize the budget the multiple versions should share the common aspects of the solution, like the graphic design.

The project was organized into three main steps:

  • One country website.
  • One additional country website (two country websites as a result).
  • Other additional country websites (several country websites as a result).

The key requirement (to manage one content version per country) was achieved using Internationalization, giving a language to every country, and mapping from the serverr every country with its own domain name. Through the power of Drupal, we provided a powerful solution, flexible and easy to manage.

Design

The design was provided by the client design team and approved by us, as a way to be sure that it would be possible to fit with Drupal structure.

We used the Fusion base theme for our template. Fusion was an excellent tool for
developing the aesthetics along the lines provided by the design team. We used the module Skinr to add classes to blocks and reuse styles in many places.

Flexibility

We needed a mechanism for adding new sites simply and quickly. That's why we decided to create a language by country and involve them in various domains, eg kcprofessional.cl, kcprofessional.com.ar, kcprofessional.com.ec, etc.

This solution gave us the flexibility required by the project.

Security

When starting the project we delivered a security policy document that the site needed to meet. Drupal easily met these objectives.

Technical specifications

Why these modules/theme/distribution were chosen:

Following the idea of minimizing the number of modules to optimize the performance and the maintaining process, these modules offered to us the way to achieve the requirements set by the company.
