Hello,

I'm in the process of setting up a very limited implementation of the Drupal ecommerce module. By limited I mean, the ecommerce aspect is only used to allow people to pay to view specific content on the site. So there are no products, and the number of transactions would be fairly low for the most part (as compared to a true ecommerce site).

My client already has a merchant account set up through Wells Fargo.

Can anyone recommend a reliable Authorize.net reseller with good rates?

Thanks,
-Varr

There are over 20 resellers listed. Who has worked with whom?

If that is the case, then why bother with a gateway?

Use Paypal and incurr no monthly fees, or PaypalPro (since they are in the US).

All I need to do right now is put a simple form on my site that accepts a 1 time payment from a credit card. Later I'll be running a store with downloadable products to sell. PayPalPro integration with ecommerce module looks *complex*. If I had to do any debugging I can see myself getting really lost. On the other hand, the Authorize.net gateway module looks very straightforward and only requires that one can grok CURL. So I naturally gravitate to the Authorize.net.

I could use real advice, though, on the pros and cons of both.

Here's my requirements list:

  • Form is built into my site, no virtual terminal where the customer has to visit the PayPal site or make any other user account on a 3rd party site.
  • Easy to use. I want this up and running by the end of the week.

Thanks for all tips.

PS, after clicking through all the Authorize.net resellers, I narrowed it down to these three based on price and how well their website is organized:

1) https://www.merchant-accounts.com/apply_online.html
2) http://www.merchantplus.com/authorizenet.php
3) https://www.merchant-accounts.com/apply_online.html

Robert.

This does not satisfy your requirments, but here is what I do on http://2bits.com

I use ecommerce, with the service module that I wrote, and Paypal to accept credit cards.

There are no monthly fees, only transaction fees which are a bit more than merchant accounts.

Of course, there are drawbacks:
- Not available in all countries, only select ones (Europe, USA, Canada are included).
- Some clients have run into certain limits imposed by Paypal.

Paypal Pro may not be an option for you, since it is US-only at present. It is convenient that it does not require the hassle of a merchant account, and is integrated into your site. There is a $20 per month fee though, unlike plain vanilla Paypal (not a big deal ...)

I also updated LinkpointAPI and it is working as well for my client. Very simple to setup, and works great.

I think your challenge is time, and the selection of a merchant account. I don't think that you can get that done in a day.

If this is a one time thing, and you are under time constraint, consider other options (e.g. doing the payment via a friend or some other form of payment).

Anyways, these are my 0.02$ Cdn.

So the dealbreaker is that the site needs to handle payments from international clients. The monthly fee is not an issue, ease of use is. So I'll continue on with Authorize.net... Goodstorm uses it, after all.

Thanks for the feedback,

I am working with CDG Commerce and my experience has been quite good, many web hosters from WHT use them and recommend them too.

I've used Paypal WPP in a client project but we had many problems accepting credit cards from people outside the US.

civicactions may have a related module for authorize.net

drupalclub’s picture

Try www.unitedbankservice.com it provides one of better rates that I know of, with a free terminal program. Last check authorize.net was for $8 only.

mwu’s picture

is also recommended on by someone on amember.com. anyone tried it?

mwu’s picture

apparently, you no longer need a reseller.
can buy directly from authorize.net. $20 a month.
$300 set up
SIM does have recurrent billing. (SIM does not require SSL)

the Drupal authorize.net module is for AIM (requires SSL)

however you can also buy it from Wells Fargo, pay $30 a month, and then you don't have to pay authorize.net.

Thank you for the United Bank recommendation. I have been going crazy looking into all the options for using autorize.net, most of them not listing their prices and forcing you to contact them directly or simply not existing anymore. It looks like a fair deal for pricing and service. I will report back if I end up using them.

If you are just looking for the Authorize.Net gateway without a merchant account you should really check out www.gatewayonly.com it is a great place to purchase Authorize.Net from a reseller that has fees much lower then Authorize.Net direct.

Set-Up/License Fee: $79.00 one time fee
Monthly Gateway Access Fee: $15.00 per month
Per Transaction Fees: 10 cents per transaction

If you are looking for a merchant account and gateway with Free Authorize.Net Setup my suggestion is www.merchantfocus.com

Good Luck!

I'm a web developer that's been around for 13 years and I primarily use Authorize.net for my carts.

I've used several merchant service providers in New England that have come and gone (which is not a great thing for me and my customers). I finally found someone who is fast and reliable at Tasker Merchant Services. His name is Matt Tasker and he's a nice guy, gets the accounts setup quickly and answers my customers Authorize.net questions, so for my company it's been a worry-free solution all around. His rates are lower than the providers I used to use, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend his company. I believe his rates are around $5 per month and 5 cents per transaction? You can get more info at www.taskermerchantservices.com

As for PayPal I've had a few customers use it. For some it works ok but others have a hassle accepting credit cards via PayPal's system. PayPal's rates are expensive too compared to Authorize.net, etc.

Tasker Merchant Services doesn't even look like a real web site, looks fake.

You would think Drupal and/or Ubercart would have a list somewhere of the best Merchant Account/gateways used by Druplers. It's a PITA researching these as there are so many of them.

RAAR’s picture

Matt's the real deal - I checked him out after seeing this thread a couple of months ago and ended up with a Authorize.net merchant account at the lowest expense I've ever seen. Matt's a very knowledgeable guy, follows through, and is not a hard sell type. Google his name for more but if you're looking for a merchant account with Authorize.net, he's the man.

But I agree, he could have a better website. Better to call...

Hi everyone.

Just did an account with Matt Tasker, owner of Tasker Payment Gateways

He has a good website with a lot of information for new people in the business like myself: http://taskerpaymentgateways.com/

I actually combined our Drupal Commerce Cart with Authorize.net payment gateway to Helcim ecommerce Merchant Account.

We are based in Vancouver, BC, Canada and Matt called me from Maine when I submitted him an email.

After that we touched base by email when I had tons of technical questions which he promptly answered and in less than 24 hours after my formal application I had my Authorize.net account.

His deal for Authorize.net was:

$0.00 set up fee.
$15.00 per month
$0.10 per transaction.

I actually did a comparison chart comparing against buying directly from Authorize.net.

Authorize.net Tasker Merchant
Setup Fee $99.00 $0.00
Monthly Fee $20.00 $15.00
Transaction fee $0.10 $0.10

Anyways, simple, saved me the setup fee and the service level was much higher than the Authorize.net rep who happened to be extremely rude! In terms of service level its very personal as we can talk directly to the owner of the small company at Matt@TaskerPaymentGateways.com

Hope this can help you guys make a decision...

Authorize.net and Cybersource are the same company working as separate entities. I wouldn't recommend using them if you're just starting out and are a small company. I had 3 transactions with them totalling hundreds of dollars and they determined my company didn't meet their qualifications and had to terminate my account. It wasn't like I wasn't shipping out the items or holding them for any length of term. It's just I was too risky. Their risk assessment dept determined to hold my money for 90 days!

The problem with this is if you are just starting out, holdiding hundreds of dollars from you really puts your business at a stand-still. I would not suggest using Authorize.net or Cybersource to anyone.

I've had about enough of Merchant account providers. Most of them just seem like big scams . They hide fees, they hide who they really are, they tell you one thing and do another. You quit one company and join another only to find out it's owned by the same company you just quit. Paypal is very attractive at this point.

With Web hosting companies it's the same thing, many web hosts are owned by larger web hosts. You may think one web host company sucks and then you join this other web host company only to find out it's owned by the one that sucks. Creative ways to screw customers more.

I don't recommend Authorize.net in general. They'll ask you to sign a document with our credit card details on it and then they 'll use that information for charging you even after you ask them to close the account!
Please be very careful...
