it seems as there was a problem with creating the 1.2 release - there is no hook_init implementation.

This was certainly wierd as the dev-version of the module does in deed contain the hook_init. Tried packaging a 1.3 version as I did not find a way to repackage the 1.2.

I have now released a 7.x-1.3-version due to the unability to repackage 1.2 and now it has the the hook_init-implementation. The code is basicly the same (I just fixed some indentation and whitespace:s to conform to drupal coding standards).
