The example module is very useful, useful especially for the way that it creates a number of options sets.

I thought that I might be able to clone (and retain) the option sets and then disable the module. Thereby keeping the cloned option sets but removing the example content type.

For whatever reason this does not work. When the example module is disabled, the cloned option sets are retained but so too is the example content type.

May I suggest this is split into two sub modules 1) Example content type and 2) Example option sets.

The node type should go away. The sample content doesn't delete automatically because if a core bug. I probably won't split the module but maybe a separate contributed project with Optionset definitions is an idea. Or at least a means of sharing configurations.
