Hi there

I was running a quite simple Drupal 5-6 blogging web site in the past, now I am thinking about relaunching it with more community focus (on Drupal 7 or something else) and here's one feature I would really be interested in.

Is it somehow possible to make node comments BE forum comments?

So that user could comment on the site and act of posting the first comment would automagically create a topic on the forum. Then users can continue discussing on the forum or in the node comments - it will be just the different views onto some discussion.
That should help a lot with getting the discussions on the forum started: forum will not feel empty, some topics will just be not related to the nodes.

P.S.
I am interesting in all sorts of advices and opinions. Please, point me to whatever you think could be related, I can research the topic more once I get the starting pointers.
I am also fine if similar result can be achieved using the different methods. E.g. maybe it's somehow easy to autocreate forum topic on node creation and just hide it until the first comment. Or maybe Discqus is somehow natural solution for this.

forum topics are nodes so therefore forum comments already are node comments as well. However, you can use the rules module to have comments create new posts of whatever content type you want.

Having just migrated to Drupal from vBulletin... When in the vBulletin CMS people post comments to an article. This also shows up as a comments Forum, which is really really useful. People could look at all the comments for all the articles as forum

At first I thought it was weird, then quickly realized how fantastic it was. Not sure if it's relevant or what the OP is talking about... but... I think you could emulate this with views and comments to some degree.
