block reference block list

I am using blockreference as a field type in a content type. I am also using nodeblock which creates blocks for me when I create certain content types. The issue I am encountering is that newer nodeblocks will not appear on my block reference select list, until I clear cache. I am searching for an alternative, since clearing cache for a large site is very expensive.

Any ideas?
