From #1832438: Any reason that you didnt just contribute to http://drupal.org/project/placeholder:
Would you be interested in making a Drupal-7 branch of the Placeholder module which aims simply to be a turn-on-solution that makes the Elements module placeholder solution work in old browsers, and depends on a jQuery library?
I'm happy to close jquery_placeholder and donate the code over to a Drupal 7 branch of this module.

The current dev (soon to be an actual release) version uses the jQueryPlaceholder library. We should see what jqeury_placeholder contains that this doesn't currently. AT the moment it stays pretty true to the 6.x branch, in the sense that it doesn't try to provide too much. It also just provides element-like functionality and nothing more.
