How get just current months events only?

Hi I been trying to just get the view for Full Calendar to show only the current months events. So if users looking at month November only the events for November show I do not what the events for October or December to show up. I have tried adding filters using my event_date field like these.
event_date start_date >= this month and event_date - end_date <= this month.
even try just set the dates like this where used selected the date setting Year 2012 and month Nov.
No lucky it just seem like it in not add the filter on at all. Even the Show Sql query not showing the filter. Is they no way to do this? I have look at all the options and search the internet for any solution with not lucky. Help would be appreciated.
