I tried to add Smart Paging to some book child pages, but it's not working. It broke the text up where I wanted it to, and it shows the pager elements, but nothing happens when you click to another page. I have it set to auto break, I changed the text filter as described, and "Limit allowed HTML tags" isn't even set.

Please provide more details of your error, as in this site don't encounter any problem using Smart Paging with Book child pages:

I actually just had to disable Smart Paging because it was interfering with views pagers in panel pages. I guess I'm going to have to postpone figuring out the book mystery later after the views one is fixed.

You may follow the suggestion in #1103810: Clean URL pagination breaks Views Pager comment #29 as workaround for this issue.
