The horizontal and vertical tab groups are fantastic tools to divide a lot of information on pages into subgroups that are easier to read for the website visitor.
Using these as tools to display information in a user-friendly way, the need arises to link to those sub groups directly.

Example:
A product page has a 1-column layout with a horizontal tab group and two tabs: "General information" and "Videos".
"General information" is the first open tab. Linking to the product page will currently always show this information.

Question:
Would it be possible to make the tab "Videos" directly linkable (e.g. "/productname#videos"), so it displays as the open tab instead of "General Information"?
There seem to be a lot of scenarios where this would be highly beneficial.

If anyone could give any hints on how this could be accomplished, I would be happy to try it out myself.

Thanks

This always works. E.g vertical tabs is provided by core and works this way by default. The only thing which is difficult sometimes is to find the correct url.
This would be the ID after the hashtag, just as you suggested it should work. If it does not work, no idea why actually.

Thanks for clearing this up. Searching for my original request now under field group gave me the following link: http://drupal.org/node/1163102

It is explained there that by adding the ID of the pane works perfectly for direct linking.
