During the setup and in the module settings, I only chose and linked to facebook, linkedin, youtube, and rss. When I view my website and look at the block, it is including the icons for twitter and google plus.

I applied the patch used to fix the warnings mentioned in this issue http://drupal.org/node/1468030 and this fixed the problem with displaying icons on profile pages that hadn't been filled in. Maybe it's related to your issue.

BBCI'm seeing this as well. In my case, I've only configured Twitter and Facebook, but somehow can't get rid of RSS.
