See http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AmazonCloudFront/latest/DeveloperGuide... for details.
I'm not the maintainer, but depending on your needs and setup you may be able to solve your issue with a combination of S3FS and LiveSyncD.
Use S3FS to mount your S3 bucket to your Linux box, then use livesyncd to watch the directories and sync the directories when changes are made.
Alternatively, you could try specifying your private directory in drupal as the mounted S3 bucket, but I ran into problems doing that way.
S3FS info is here: http://code.google.com/p/s3fs/wiki/FuseOverAmazon
Live Sync Info is here: http://code.google.com/p/lsyncd/
Very little interest for this apparently. Therefore, not worth our time, marking as won't fix.
Feel free to reopen if you plan to work on this.
