So I just got a new webserver, im using ubuntu feisty faun with Drupal 5.1, everything is up and running.

My current website is for my student society , www.uottawaess.ca

What i wish to do is basically rebuild that site using drupal , and then host the site on my new server

I am new to this sort of thing and any assistance would be helpful

I do not know yet what my static ip @ the university is ( is where the server will be set up) and I am unsure how domain names work ( I believe i just log into my domain name hosts site and set the domain name to point to a different ip no ?)

any help or pointers to guides would be greatly appreciated as ive had no luck with the search functions, thanks for your time :D

srry correction, i just point it to a new domain.

So like when i have my static ip up and running i redirect my domain name to http://my_static_ip_here/drupal ???

Because currently www.uottawaess.ca points to http://www.genie.uottawa.ca/~essaeg/ which is where our current website is located on the university server. So i am worried that when someone types in www.uottawaess.ca it wont say www.uottawaess.ca , it will say http://my_static_ip_here/drupal .

Is there any way to ensure this does not happen?
