I just read an article here saying overlay is unstable with drupal distros, is that the fact when a site goes live and we have many people using it?

Here's the link --> http://groups.drupal.org/node/63123

Can somebody advise me on how to proceed with this when i go live? how do i disable the overlay?

That's a good point, thanks for the link. I think as long as core enables it by default, we can do that as well (and we use the overlay in several other places, like the resume edit screen, in order to increase the user experience).

The overlay and colorbox module are of course optional. So you can disable them as soon as you have installed the Recruiter distribution.

But my point is, does it really create problems with increased number of users?

So, if I understand you correctly, you are concerned about the performance? The overlay module is not going to make any difference in that case, as far as I know. It might even seem to be faster to the end user, as he stays on the same site without redirects.
