There have been a lot of drupal planet blog posts about using sublime text 2 for Drupal development. I think it would be great to include that with DrupalPro (including popular sublime text packages). I'll link to a few of the blog posts I frequent to know which packages to install.

Sublime Text 2 is pretty awesome, but it is commercial software, not an open source application like the other editors, so this doesn't seem very likely.

Ah true, that makes sense. It has an evaluation period but it's still not FOSS.

Hmm, I've been struggling about wether to include this.

On one side, I feel DrupalPro is about best practices (in Linux/Ubuntu). Therefore I had already updated the install script to include Sublime Text -- at least make it easy to install by setting a config.ini flag. I felt it is quite simple for someone to erase if they want pure FOSS. Plus, Ubuntu isn't pure FOSS (free software only). There are quite a few binaries that don't include sourcecode, etc -- unless you install the alt CD and then explicitly install free software only.

Personally, I don't advocate supporting software that doesn't include source code. Sublime Text 2 does not include source. At the same time, I have no qualms about paying someone for their time to create said software. I'm kind of up in the air on this one... I also feel a bit like if a commercial entity is supporting open source software by releasing a top notch product ... well, that's kinda nice, and I'd like to support them. perhaps the source code issue is the key, however... idk.

Also, FWIW, I've used Sublime Text extensively at this point. It's got some nice features. However, other than a few minor things, I still feel Geany is a superior text editor.

I'm using Sublime Text 2 because of all the drupal related plugins. Other editors / IDEs can all do this so it really is a personal preference on using ST2. I enjoy it for the plugins, speed, etc.

Give the ST2 isn't open source it most likely won't be included in the appliance, however you can easily install it yourself. @see http://www.technoreply.com/how-to-install-sublime-text-2-on-ubuntu-12-04... for steps.

I would still would like more feedback regarding the principles to include or not. I'm leaning towards not -- while still making it easy for newbies to linux/ubuntu to install.

Personally I would love to see it as it's my editor of choice. Maybe a simple shortcut to a script on the desktop that lets someone easily install it?
